Councilmember's Column (Apr 6 - Apr 12)
Councilmember Eric Lucan shares city news, events and meetings on the horizon, and on occasion a few spontaneous thoughts.

On my Mind
I had to swing by the City of Novato’s One-Stop-Shop for a small project this past week and was once again impressed with the overall process for obtaining a permit. Over the years, I have probably stopped into the One-Stop-Shop about five times for various reasons ranging from simple permits and questions to more extensive planning items. Each time, all the right individuals are available on hand to answer any questions and have frequently gone above and beyond to provide a high level of customer service. (It should be noted that I received the same level of service long before I was elected to the city council).
Not familiar with One-Stop-Shop? Available Monday to Thursday from 9am-11am, the One-Stop-Shop is the simplest way to obtain over-the-counter permits from the City of Novato. During those times, building, planning, and code enforcement staff is available to assist residents in obtaining building permits and help answer questions. While I occasional hear a frustration or two about permit fees, I regularly hear compliments about the service at One-Stop-Shop. What has your experience been?
Around Town
SMART Train Arrives – This past Tuesday, the first SMART Pilot Cars rolled into Cotati. It was a momentous occasion many years in the making and a significant milestone as Marin and Sonoma get closer to having the commuter train rolling through our cities and towns.
Novato Community Hospital Tour – Thank you to Brian Alexander, Chief Administrative Officer for Novato Community Hospital for the hospital tour this past week. Enjoyed meeting the staff and learning more about the services provided in the community.

Patient Day at Ultragenyx – On Saturday, I had the opportunity to attend the 2nd Annual Patient day at Ultragenyx in Novato where I met some incredible researchers and scientists, but some even more inspiring patients. It is amazing to see the innovative work being done right here in Novato. Pictures.
Wild Horses Half Marathon & 5K – Great turnout on Sunday at San Marin for a morning run. Special kudos to all the girls who came out to participate in the “Run Like a Girl” series.
