Councilmember's Column (Feb 23 - Mar 1)
Councilmember Eric Lucan shares city news, events and meetings on the horizon, and on occasion a few spontaneous thoughts.

On my Mind
We want to hear from you on the Northwest Quadrant Neighborhood! Wait, what is the Northwest Quadrant Neighborhood? A map speaks a thousands words, but simply put it is the area just north of Downtown between First & Seventh Streets. A neighborhood plan was last prepared in 1977 and almost 40 years later, now is a great time to look at the area again and plan for the next 40+ years.
There will be two public workshops on the area. The first, on Saturday, March 14, will start with a walking tour and discussion. Then, a week and a half later, the second workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss some draft plan options.
Similar workshops have been very well attended and we hope you can make it. Many times people ask me, “How can I get more involved in the City of Novato?” Being a part of workshops like this is a great way to get connected.

Hope to see you there. (FYI – Novato Little League has their opening day ceremony that morning, so I will probably be joining the tour / discussion a little late).

Around Town
State of the City – Round of applause for City Manager Michael Frank on delivering an excellent State of the City Address to a full house at City Hall this past Tuesday. Pictures. You can read the Novato Advance article on the address here: http://www.marinscope.com/novato_advance/news/article_3ce018d0-bdf1-11e4-8cd6-d70ca9c676d7.html
California Parks & Recreation Installation & Awards Banquet – On Saturday, I attended the annual banquet for District 1, which was hosted in Novato at the Margaret Todd Center. Although the district stretches all the way to the Oregon border, Novato had the privilege of hosting as our very own Recreation Coordinator Katie Gauntlett was installed as this year’s President. The highlight of the evening is the recognition of the volunteers and this year Pat Cline was recognized for nearly 20 years of volunteer service at the Margaret Todd Center. Pat had quite the entourage as well with four to five tables of friends joining to celebrate with her at the banquet. Pictures
