Councilmember Eric Lucan shares city news, events and meetings on the horizon, and on occasion a few spontaneous thoughts.

On my Mind
This past week, the City of Novato received a formal planning application for a multi-use recreational facility and community park in Hamilton. The site and potential project have been discussed for the past several years, but previously, it was just an idea or early concept. Now we have a formal proposal for the 55-acre site.
The project proposal for the “Hamilton Field Sports Park and Community Park” includes four baseball/softball fields, two multi-sport fields, a training center, and 1,000-seat ballpark and 12 acres for a public access community park. You can see the site plan here.
There is still much work to be done including a neighborhood presentation, traffic and environmental studies, and future public meetings. The whole process will probably take 12 to 18 months. The project definitely creates a unique benefit to the City of Novato—a 12-acre community park with no expense to the taxpayers and the added benefits of a top-notch recreational facility.

I am sure there will be much discussion about this project over the next year and a half, but was curious about the initial thoughts from the Patch community? The project team making the proposal has put together a great website at www.hamiltonfields.com. The City of Novato has also added the project to their hot topics page located here. So what do you think?
