County Elementary School Spelling Bee Champ Crowned

Do you know how to spell the winning word?

The Marin County Central Regional Elementary Spelling Bee was held Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at White Hill Middle School in Fairfax. Haley Hodges, a 6th grader from Ross Elementary School, was the first place winner. The winning word was anomaly.

The following five finalists will represent the Central Region at the Marin County Elementary Spelling Bee Championship on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at the Marin County Office of Education.

  • Haley Hodges, 6th grade, Ross Elementary School – first place
  • Barrett Acker, 4th grade, Hidden Valley Elementary School – second place
  • Jane Tananaeva, 5th grade, Brookside Elementary School – third place
  • George Shryock, 5th grade, Brookside Elementary School – fourth place
  • Makena Mitchell, 5th grade, Hidden Elementary School – fifth place

The regional and county elementary spelling bees are part of a countywide program of spelling contests coordinated by the Marin County Office of Education. Special thanks to the Marin Association of Realtors, Inc. for volunteering as judges for this popular academic event. The judges for this competition were Susan Hewitt of Decker Bullock Sotheby’s International Realty and Kathee Shatter of Pacific Union International.
