Chef Bryant Terry presents inspired dining from his book, "Afro-Vegan," at Fresh Starts Chef Events.

Learn from the author of “Afro-Vegan” -- named one of the best cookbooks of 2014 by Amazon.com -- about the art of eating mindfully with fresh, tasty recipes.

Activist, chef and author Bryant Terry of Oakland returns for a second appearance at Fresh Starts Chef Events from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 23, to talk about his work in cooking, gardening and as a food justice advocate with speaking engagements around the country.

The chef, who also authored “Vegan Soul Kitchen: Fresh, Healthy, and Creative African-American Cuisine,” was named in 2012 by Hillary Clinton as one of 80 American chefs in a new American Chef Corps. He appeared on TheRoot.com’s list of 100 Most Influential African Americans in 2012 and Ebony Magazine named him to its “Power 100” list in 2011.

He’s a graduate of the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts in New York City; his work has been featured in the New York Times, Food & Wine, and Gourmet.
