License Plate Reader Helps Novato Police Nab Another Suspected Car Thief

Another recent arrest announced by Novato PD.

Novato police arrested a suspected car thief Monday with the help an automated license plate reader.

Edgar Corona, 24, of Novato was arrested inside a vehicle in the area of Alameda Del Prado when the license plate reader alerted police to a stolen vehicle in the area, police said.

Corona was booked in the Marin County Jail for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and burglary tools and possession of suspected illegal drugs and paraphernalia, police said.

Police said officers also located evidence linking Corona to other burglaries and thefts in Novato.

Police have several patrol vehicles equipped with the automated license plate readers that recognizes license plates entered into a database and gathers information for investigating and recovering stolen vehicles.
