MarinMOCA Awarded $15,000 Grant to Support the Altered Book Show

The Marin Museum of Contemporary Art (MarinMOCA) at Hamilton Field in Novato is thrilled to announce it has again received a $15,000 grant from the Donald O. and Ronald R. Collins Fund of the Marin Community Foundation. The grant was awarded to support MarinMOCA’s annual fundraiser, the Altered Book Show/Silent Auction, in which Bay Area artists use books to create 150 different “book art objects.” The bookworks are offered in a Silent Auction for five weeks, closing with a Live Auction where they are auctioned off to the highest bidder.

“The grant from the Collins Fund will be used to match all of the winning bids, dollar for dollar, up to a total of $15,000,” explains Heidi LaGrasta, Executive Director of MarinMOCA. “What a great opportunity to see the Bay Area’s vibrant book art scene and support MarinMOCA at the same time. We hope this grant provides an extra incentive for everyone to come and bid on these wonderful artworks” she adds. Now in its fifth year, the show has been a highly successful fund raising event for the museum. All 150 participating artists donate their work and all of the proceeds support a variety of MarinMOCA’s exhibitions and programs. “We are extremely grateful to Ron Collins for making this grant possible and for his avid support of this show,” said LaGrasta.

The Altered Book Show opens with a reception at the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art on April 19 from 5 to 7 pm. Donna Seager, owner of Seager Gray Gallery in Mill Valley, will give a talk about her lifelong love of the book at 4pm preceding the reception. The show closes on May 24 with a Live Auction Closing Party, 5-7:30 pm.

The Marin Museum of Contemporary Art is located at the Novato Arts Center at Hamilton Field 500 Palm Drive, Novato, California. Hours are Wednesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
