Mayor's Weekly (July 21 – July 27)
Novato's Mayor Eric Lucan shares city news, events and meetings on the horizon, and on occasion a few spontaneous thoughts.
On my Mind
The Novato Space Festival is less than a week away on Saturday, August 2nd from 10AM to 4PM at Pacheco Plaza. Whether you are a regular of the Space Station Museum or have yet to visit, I encourage everyone to come check out the Space Festival on Saturday for an opportunity to meet two Astronauts – Dick Gordon (Apollo 12 Moon Mission) and Dan Bursch (227 Days Living in Space). The museum and festival are great for the entire family and you will be able to touch a full-size replica of a lunar module, take a photo in a “moon buggy”, view interactive displays from NASA, and much more.
I can’t wait to see the replica of the lunar module which just “landed” in Novato this past week (read more at marinij.com). It will also be great to meet Dan Bursch and see Dick Gordon again. The festival is free and I am sure you will have a great time.
We really our fortunate to have this incredible museum in Novato. Special thanks to Ken Winans and Debbie Wreyford for founding the museum and organizing the festival. It is a great reminder to older generations and a teacher to kids on the history of space exploration. As a child, I was a part of the space shuttle generation and it was quite common for every launch to be televised in classrooms. The generation before me witnessed the Apollo missions and Neil Armstrong landing on the moon. It’s important for this next generation to learn about our incredible history and this weekend’s coming festival is a perfect opportunity. Besides, where else could you shake hands and talk with two guys that have been in space? Learn more at http://spacestationca.org/NovatoSpaceFestival.shtml
