Mayor's Weekly (Oct 20 - Oct 26)
Novato's Mayor Eric Lucan shares city news, events and meetings on the horizon, and on occasion a few spontaneous thoughts.

On my Mind
This past weekend, I got to witness the Christening of the Bones of The Matthew Turner. I should probably start by clarifying that The Matthew Turner is a ship. The Matthew Turner is not just any ship though—it is a historic and sustainable 132’ wooden tall ship for the San Francisco Bay Area. It is also the first tall ship to be built in this area in over 100 years! The ship is being constructed by Educational Tall Ship, a 501c3 non-profit organization. When complete, the ship will serve as an experiential learning platform for youth from around the Bay Area.
The ship is being constructed in the huge tent on Marinship Way in Sausalito. Blogging about it doesn’t do it justice though, but I do hope that others might visit their website, or better yet, the ship itself. There are still some funds to be raised and individuals needed to volunteer in order to fill the sails. What sort of impact might one ship have? Alan Olson, executive director for the Educational Tall Ship, mentioned that over the next 100 years, it is estimated that over 1 million students will set sail on The Matthew Turner. That is quite a legacy and now is an excellent time to be a part. Check out www.educationaltallship.org for more information.

Downtown Event is a Real Scream – Hats off to the Chamber of Commerce and the DNBA for Scream on the Green this past weekend and downtown safe Trick or Treat on Saturday. It was great seeing so many families pack the downtown in costume! Pictures
