Politics & Government

Mayor's Weekly (Sept 22- Sept 28)

Novato's Mayor Eric Lucan shares city news, events and meetings on the horizon, and on occasion a few spontaneous thoughts.

On my Mind
This past Tuesday I attended a fundraiser breakfast for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Marin and Southern Sonoma Counties. As you may know, a club in Novato just opened last month at San Jose Middle School and is already off to a great start with around 70 students attending each day. The Boys & Girls club provides a vital role in the lives of young people and the club’s impact was quite evident when “Youth of the Year” Mario Vasquez Garcia spoke to the audience.

We also had the benefit of hearing from Dwight Clark who was the keynote speaker. While I didn’t witness “The Catch” in person or live on TV, it is probably safe to say that the impact of that play turned me into a 49ers fan for life. Dwight shared some great stories about Joe, Eddie, Jerry, and Ronnie. Number 87 mentioned that when he gets together with Joe to reminisce, Joe often jokes that the play should really be referred to as “The Throw” instead of “The Catch”. Everyone got a good laugh on that one. All around, it was a great breakfast for an incredible cause.

Around Town

Habitat for Humanity Breaks Ground in Novato – I couldn’t attend the groundbreaking this past Tuesday, but the 10-home Habitat for Humanity project known as Mt. Burdell Place is now underway.

Social Justice Retreat for Youth – On Saturday, I had a great opportunity to speak to the Marin County Youth Commission as well as some students from the Youth Leadership Institute’s SF programs at their retreat in San Rafael. This was an incredible group of young people who gave up their Saturday and volunteer their time to give back to their communities. Pictures
