New Summer Program with Limited Spots, Apply Today!

Novato Youth Center is Now Accepting Applications for Middle School Leaders-in-Training Summer Program

Do you know a middle school age student in your family, neighborhood or community who has leadership potential and is looking for a great summer experience?  Middle school age youth are encouraged to apply to the Leaders-In-Training Summer Program offered by the Novato Youth Center. Components of the program include training, mentoring, community service and academics. Leaders-In-Training provides a meaningful, fun and inspiring summer for middle school age youth, supporting successful interactions at school, home and in their community. Applications are currently being accepted with a limited number of spots available.      

The Novato Youth Center seeks incoming 6th-8th grade applicants who demonstrate positive leadership traits including empathy, dedication, and 21st Century Skills. Using creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking, students who have a desire to improve their communities will be a natural fit for the program.

Accepted students will receive training in: public speaking, conflict resolution, volunteer & interview skills and on-line safety and responsibility. Students will also participate in mentoring younger students, team-building games and exercises, and Community Improvement projects. There will be guest speakers sharing their personal stories of success as well as off-site excursions to visit local leaders.  Throughout the weeks, participants will also enjoy plenty of fun activities, art and games.    

Cost for the program is based on of hours of participation and a fee schedule can be found atwww.novatoyouthcenter.org. Program hours are Monday through Friday from 10am to 5pm.  A signed parent/student agreement committing to a minimum of 3 days per week (non-field trip days) from 10am to 5pm, for a minimum of three consecutive weeks, will be required upon enrollment.  Those students successfully completing 84 hours or more of leadership training will receive a formal Certificate of Completion.
