Novato Automated Plate Reader Credited with Recovering Stolen San Rafael Car
The device automatically recognizes license plates entered into a database.

Novato police used an automated license plate reader this weekend to successfully recover a car reported stolen out of San Rafael.
Several of the Novato Police Department’s patrol vehicles are equipped with Automated License Plate Readers, which automatically recognizes license plates entered into a database.

On Saturday, a police patrol car outfitted with one of the readers passed a green Toyota Corolla parked near the intersection of Olivia Court and Olivia Drive in Novato, police said.
The reader recognized the vehicle as having been stolen in San Rafael on Aug. 8.
