Novato Police Arrest Two People Spotted in Stolen Vehicle

The SUV had been reported stolen out of San Rafael, police said.

Novato police arrested two people late Tuesday on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle.

A Novato police officer with an automated license plate reader on his vehicle was alerted to a stolen vehicle passing by in the 300 block of Alameda Del Prado around 11:55 p.m. Tuesday, police Cpl. Chris Jacob said.

The driver of the Toyota 4Runner, which was reported stolen in San Rafael earlier Tuesday, quickly turned onto Cielo Lane to try to elude the officer, Jacob said.

The officer located two people inside the stolen vehicle at the end of Cielo Lane. Jose Valdez, 22, and Edith Peraza, 20, both of Novato, were arrested and booked into Marin County Jail, Jacob said.

Valdez also was arrested by Novato police on Jan. 13 for auto theft, Jacob said.
