NUSD's Superintendent Retiring at End of School Year
Dr. Shalee Cunningham announces retirement.

Dr. Shalee Cunningham, Superintendent of Novato Unified School District, sent out the following announcement on Nov. 5, 2014:
Last night at the Board of Trustees meeting, I announced my retirement at the end of the current school year, June 30, 2015.
I am very proud of the accomplishments made over the past few years. With a focus on teaching and learning, we have served all students in an effort to help them make a year’s growth in a year’s time. We have implemented intervention strategies to assist our students when needed.
New programs have been implemented that include STEM at San MarinHigh School, the Newcomers Program for our students new to the Country, and have designed our Special Education classes to be in Learning Center models serving students in their neighborhood schools. Full implementation of the Common Core State Standards and the Local Control Funding Formula has been a challenge that did not slow us down.

We’ve also been able to improve some facilities and build a few new sorely needed ones: new gymnasium at Hamilton School, new multi-use room at San Ramon Elementary School, new cafeteria and multi-use room at San Marin High School, and a new and expanded cafeteria and multi-use room, dance studio and pool at Novato High School.
With participation from the community, we developed a Strategic Plan and a Local Control and Accountability Plan that we’re proud of, and a Facility Master Plan that continues to expand with progressive and visionary work being done to support it. We are very fortunate and grateful to our Novato community to pass a Parcel Tax with over 80% of voter support of our schools. Our morale is high and community support outstanding.

The NUSD leadership team is among the best and brightest in the field of education; their guidance will assure all students are treated equally as some need more to get the same. NUSD is recognized as an innovative and progressive school district and I have enjoyed working on behalf of the students, staff and community these past four years.
In the coming months, you will hear more about how the Board of Trustees will search for a new superintendent for placement July 1, 2015.
Respectfully,
Dr. Shalee Cunningham
Superintendent
