A police officer in Novato, using an automated license plate reader, was able to locate two stolen cars Saturday.
The officer was patrolling the area of Marin Valley Drive around 6:50 p.m. when the license plate reader alerted the officer to a reported stolen 1996 Saturn, police said.
The car was confirmed stolen earlier in the day from a Novato resident, according to police.
Several hours later, around 10:50 p.m., the same officer was near the Best Western Novato Oaks Inn at 215 Alameda Del Prado and received an alert of another stolen car, police said.
The 1995 Honda the officer found was reported stolen from El Cerrito.
