Meet Junior Tavia Vitkauskas, the Scholar-Athlete for the month of March at St. Vincent High School. During this spring athletic season, Tavia is being recognized for her commitment and dedication to academics, community, and sport.
Tavia is the daughter of Margie and John Vitkauskas of Novato and is currently competing on the Tennis team for the Mustangs. She also participated on the Soccer and JV Basketball teams. Soccer is her passion, but when asked why she chose to compete in basketball and tennis, Tavia stated “I just like to stay busy, and have something to do”. Being a 3 sport athlete definitely does that, but does not compare to Tavia’s other pursuits at St. Vincent High School. She is a member of the award winning Debate team and must spend hours of prep work for Debate. Service hours – no problem! Tavia is currently at over 700 hours of community service and climbing towards 1000. She has volunteered with a Children’s Theater Company at Our Lady of Loretto in Novato, teaches a debate class at OLL, and is also a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. And if this doesn’t occupy enough of her time, she also holds down a part-time job at Baskin Robbins. Anyone want to see her daily planner?
After completing the first semester of her junior year at St. Vincent, Tavia currently has a 4.36 cumulative GPA and is setting her sights on all A’s in this 3rd quarter. She is taking 3 AP courses and 3 Honors courses. As college is still a year away, Tavia hopes to attend Hillsdale College which is a small conservative, non-government funded, private school in Michigan. Her future field of study is undecided at this time, but there is every confidence in the world that whatever Tavia decides to do, she will put every effort forth to succeed. Until then, Tavia will remain at St. Vincent and continue to “stay busy and have something to do”.
