The actress, known best for her roles in "The Golden Girls" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," died just weeks before her 100th birthday. White was a pioneer for women in television. She was the first woman to produce a national TV show, the first woman to star in a sitcom, and the first woman to receive an Emmy nomination, according to the PBS documentary, "Betty White: First Lady of Television." In fact, she was the first woman to ever appear on television with her performance on an experimental broadcast in the 1930s. (Los Angeles Patch) - How Much Rain Did Oceanside and San Diego County Get in December? At the Oceanside Airport the 2021 December totals are 3.69 inches. Nearly double the December average of 1.91 inches. However, the 2021 yearly total is 10.11 inches, slightly below the yearly average of 11.79 inches. (NBC San Diego)
- The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is investigating a homicide at the San Diego Central Jail. On December 29, 2021, at about 7:00 p.m., Deputies at the San Diego Central Jail witnessed an inmate, 38-year-old Dominique James McCoy, being assaulted by another inmate, 18-year-old John Roman Medina, in a cell. The deputies intervened and removed Medina from the cell. McCoy was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving. (Press Release Desk)
