Hello again, neighbors! It's Saturday in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on the most important things happening in the community today. Here's the lowdown.

Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Rep. Mike Levin announced $5.2 million in funding to advance the San Luis Rey River Flood Protection Project in Oceanside. The funding will be used for the geotechnical investigation of levees and environmental coordination, levee repair design, hydrology updates and hydraulic analysis, and the monitoring of both water quality and local species. "After 50 years, this project continues to be a high priority for our community. These funds will especially address the public safety of and economic impact to residents and businesses along the river," said Oceanside Mayor Esther Sanchez. Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  2. A driver was killed early Friday in Oceanside after leading deputies on a pursuit that ended in a solo crash that left him dead. A hazmat response was called after chemicals spilled onto the road. The events that led to the fatal wreck began shortly before 4:30 a.m., when a security company reported a burglar alarm sounding and a suspicious person in a pool area at the complex in the 1900 block of Willow Ridge Drive in Vista, according to the county Sheriff's Department.   3. The San Diego County Fair's "Heroes, Reunite!" exhibit celebrates Community Heroes like Kathy Kinane, founder of the Oceanside Turkey Trot. The Hall of Heroes features our Southern California neighbors who have overcome monumental obstacles, shown great courage, and protect, nurture and bring joy to people around them.
