5 Things: Half Off Scream Zone, Prayer for Women, Cancer Research, Kids Make Characters, Spooky Tales

We've boiled down the Camp Pendleton and Oceanside-related events and developments to five in the days ahead.

Scream Zone Opens in Del Mar

at the Del Mar Fairgrounds opens Friday night featuring a house of horror, haunted hayride, deadly chamber and food and drinks.

The event runs Thursday to Saturday through Oct. 23, then beginning on Oct. 24, will be open every night through Halloween.

Tickets are $15 to $28. You can get half off, or a $14 ticket, Friday night only for Triple Haunt at the Scream Zone box office. Visit the Scream Zone website for more information.

Prayer for Military-Connected Women

Author Billie Cash speaks 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pacific View South Mesa Club about using prayer for active-duty military women and wives.

Cash, wife of retired Navy Capt. Roy Cash Jr., talks with humor and long experience on using prayer as a piece of the military life puzzle.

A Kids Camp is offered while mothers attend the event, but space is limited and reservations are required.

Event at Rookies Benefits Cancer Research

Team Pink Power 32 holds a charity event Saturday from 8 p.m. to closing at the , 2216 El Camino Rd. in Oceanside.

DJ and dancing, raffle, prizes and more are on tap at the event, which is a benefit for breast cancer research.

Make Your Own Characters

It's at 1 p.m. Sunday at the .

Kids can use drawings, fabrics, paper bags and magazines to create a character to tell a story. lllustrator Everett Peck will talk about how he creates characters during a special docent event.

Spooky Tales, Halloween Haunts

Bring the family to the Abby Reinke Community Center, Building 201019, for some spooky fun at the Haunted Harvest Festival, Saturday, Oct. 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The community center and teen programs, along with the Marine Corps Community Services, invite all to take in the scary storytelling, food, entertainment and Halloween activities. For details, call 760-763-0649.
