CAMP PENDLETON, CA — Smoke from a vegetation fire on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton triggered a smoke advisory Wednesday for parts of San Diego's North County.

The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District issued a smoke advisory for the communities of Camp Pendelton, Oceanside, Bonsall and Fallbrook.

The blaze, called the November Fire, sparked around 10 a.m. in the southern part of the military base, a few miles northeast of Interstate 5, according to Cal Fire. By 2:30 p.m., the fire had spread to 560 acres and was 0% contained.

"Winds have been carrying smoke to areas east and northeast of the fire and smoke is impacting homes and businesses around the Oceanside Municipal Golf Course in Oceanside," the advisory stated. "Onshore winds are expected to persist through Wednesday afternoon, which will continue to push smoke toward the east and northeast and could impact the communities of Bonsall and southern Fallbrook."

In areas with heavy smoke from the fire, air quality is expected to range from unhealthy for sensitive groups to unhealthy for all individuals, according to the district. Where smoke impacts are lighter, conditions may vary from moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups.

The district advised residents near affected communities who smell smoke to limit outdoor activity. People should stay indoors, if possible, to limit their exposure to fine particulate matter and ozone, especially those with respiratory or heart disease, children and the elderly.
