Fire Fully Contained In Rainbow Area Of North San Diego County

RAINBOW, CA — Crews have fully contained a wildfire that threatened homes and prompted evacuations in the Rainbow area of northern San Diego County, Cal Fire officials said Thursday morning.

The fire was declared 100% contained at 6:17 a.m. Thursday after crews continued working overnight to secure the fire's perimeter. No injuries or structural damage were reported.

The blaze, called the Rainbow 3 Fire, sparked around 10 a.m. along Rainbow Crest Road, near Mordigan Lane and Gomez Greek Road in the unincorporated community of Rainbow, according to Cal Fire.

While the spread was initially halted at an estimated 35 acres, Cal Fire later downgraded the burn area to 26 acres due to more accurate mapping.

The fire threatened roughly 10 homes and prompted an evacuation order and warning. Both were lifted by Wednesday afternoon as firefighters gained control of the blaze.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
