📰 News we're reading

1. Oceanside tests fall dredging to bolster beaches (northcoastcurrent.com) — Oceanside is shifting its annual harbor dredging to the fall, sending about 380,000 cubic yards of sand onto beaches from the harbor past the pier toward Tyson Street Park to better protect the shoreline this winter. Expect closed parking at Harbor Lot 12, heavy equipment on the sand through about Oct. 20, and additional access limits along the Strand as pier repairs and utility work overlap.

2. Oceanside planners approve 41 homes in two coastal projects (thecoastnews.com) — Oceanside's Planning Commission has approved two four‑story coastal projects totaling 41 apartments, including six affordable units, on South Tremont Street and South Coast Highway. Both density‑bonus developments will add ground‑floor commercial space, limited on‑site parking, and exterior murals, while nearby residents raise concerns about building height, construction access, and future street parking pressure.

3. Oceanside, Escondido review homeless efforts, refine approach (thecoastnews.com) — Oceanside officials report a rise in unsheltered homelessness but outline major steps the city is taking, from expanding the Navigation Center and safe parking to launching the HEART outreach team and tracking individuals by name. New affordable housing projects, voucher funding, and a state-funded encampment cleanup along SR-78 are all aimed at moving more Oceanside residents into permanent housing.

4. Kaloust Guedel's New Exhibition at Oceanside Museum of Art Explores the Fluidity of Time Through Traditional Craft and Contemporary Art (northcountydailystar.com) — An upcoming exhibition at Oceanside Museum of Art, "Where Time Bends Softly," will run October through March and invites Oceanside visitors into an immersive blend of ancient inlay techniques and contemporary fiber-based art. Alongside this show, the museum continues offering classes, concerts, films, and creative community events designed to engage local residents and visitors with Southern California artists.

5. Ballet folklórico finds a home in the classroom at MiraCosta College (10news.com) — Students at MiraCosta College's Oceanside campus have turned their passion for ballet folklórico into two for‑credit classes, recognizing the traditional Mexican dance as serious academic and cultural work. The new courses let students deepen ties to their heritage, perform on campus, and highlight the diversity and pride within Oceanside's college community.
