ESCONDIDO, CA — Two motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol during a DUI checkpoint in North County, police said.
The checkpoint was held from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday at Escondido Boulevard and Woodward Avenue in Escondido. Of the 914 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, officers contacted 237 drivers, according to the Escondido Police Department.
Police also cited 15 motorists for driving without a license.
Checkpoint locations are selected based on data showing where impaired-driving crashes have occurred, according to the department.
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
