Today's riddle: How do billboards talk? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Oceanside Voters to Decide on Another Sales Tax Measure – [your]NEWS (yournews.com) — Oceanside voters will soon decide Measure S, a proposed half‑cent sales tax increase that would fund repairs to the aging Oceanside Pier, beach sand projects, roads, and new public safety facilities. Supporters say it's needed to avoid deep budget cuts, while critics worry about "double taxation" so soon after extending Measure X, leaving residents to weigh higher costs against critical infrastructure needs.
2. Red Cross Urges Santee Residents To Donate Blood This Fall (patch.com) — Several American Red Cross blood drives are coming up right in Oceanside, including events at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Oct. 11, Oceanside First Presbyterian on Oct. 13, and the Oceanside Masonic Center and Residence Inn later in the month. With gift-card incentives and flexible times, residents who are healthy and eligible can make an appointment now to help ensure local hospitals have lifesaving blood on hand.
3. Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Honors Heroes of Oceanside and Camp Pendelton – North County Daily Star (northcountydailystar.com) — Oceanside residents and Camp Pendleton service members were recently honored at the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce's annual Heroes luncheon, recognizing lifesaving first responders, dedicated educators, healthcare workers, and community-minded businesses. Local leaders, including the mayor and councilmembers, presented awards to Oceanside police, firefighters, lifeguards, school staff, and nonprofits for their service and impact across the city.
4. Carlsbad Commits $5.2M for Rail Trench Reviews – North County Daily Star (northcountydailystar.com) — A new agreement between Carlsbad, SANDAG, and NCTD moves forward design and environmental review for trenching the railroad tracks from south Oceanside's Buena Vista Lagoon through Carlsbad Village. Oceanside residents who rely on coastal rail or live near the tracks may see long-term changes in train noise, safety, and traffic patterns once this regional project advances.
