Today's riddle: Why do some birds fly south for the winter? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Tropical Storm Rachel swamps San Diego County with heavier-than-expected rain (kansas.com) — Oceanside took a direct hit from Tropical Storm Rachel's remnants, with powerful surf slamming beachside cottages, flooding the Strand and drawing risky crowds to watch waves crash over parked cars. The storm dumped more than two and a half inches of rain in eastern Oceanside, contributed to widespread flooding and water rescues across the county, and briefly cut power for hundreds of residents.
2. Pursuit Of Robbery Suspect Ends After Multiple Crashes, Oceanside, CA (onscene.tv) — A robbery suspect's attempted getaway ended at the westbound Highway 78 Jefferson Street offramp in Oceanside after a pursuit that began in Vista and involved multiple crashes. Deputies say a passenger called 911 claiming they were being held against their will before the vehicle crashed at the Oceanside exit, where law enforcement rescued the passenger and used pepper balls to try to remove the driver.
3. Rachel brings major rainfall to parts of Southern California as high tides loom (sfchronicle.com) — Oceanside picked up about 1.4 inches of rain from Post-Tropical Storm Rachel, as high tides and coastal flooding batter communities across Southern California. Local residents should be alert for lingering showers, possible flash flooding, and hazardous surf and rip currents, especially around high tide, even as the storm weakens inland.
4. Shock Win First-Ever Game In Overtime (northcountydailystar.com) — Oceanside hockey fans just saw history as the new Shock franchise earned its first-ever win with a dramatic overtime comeback at Frontwave Arena. Vladimir Fadeev's hat trick capped a wild special-teams battle, and the team now prepares to host Stockton again next Sunday for a "Stick it to Cancer Night" home game with tickets already on sale.
5. N. Oregon Coast's Astoria Closes in on National Award (beachconnection.net) — Oceanside's own Mainstreet Oceanside has been named a semifinalist for the prestigious 2027 Great American Main Street Award, putting the city's downtown revitalization efforts on a national stage. While Astoria, Oregon is the main focus, Oceanside is one of just eight communities nationwide recognized for strong preservation-based downtown renewal and community engagement.
