OCEANSIDE, CA — Drivers heading west toward Oceanside on state Route 78 should expect overnight closures this week as Caltrans continues highway improvements in North County.
All westbound lanes of SR-78 at South Rancho Santa Fe Road in San Marcos will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly through Thursday, Oct. 15, according to Caltrans.
Motorists will be directed off the freeway at South Rancho Santa Fe Road and can re-enter westbound SR-78 using the on-ramp at the same interchange.
Crews will replace concrete slabs used for a system that measures vehicle weights as part of a $126 million project to improve a 17.7-mile stretch of SR-78 between Interstate 5 in Oceanside and Broadway and Lincoln Parkway in Escondido.
Electronic signs will alert drivers to the closures and alternate routes. Nearby residents and businesses should expect increased traffic, construction noise and lighting during the overnight work.
The schedule is subject to change due to weather or other conditions.
Drivers can check current road conditions at Caltrans QuickMap.
