OCEANSIDE, CA — One person suffered burns and was airlifted to a burn center after a backyard fire in Oceanside, authorities said.
The Oceanside Fire Department responded around 1:50 p.m. Sunday to a reported structure fire near Clementine and Surfrider streets.
Firefighters arrived to find debris burning in a backyard. Crews contained and extinguished the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby properties, officials said.
While searching the area, firefighters found a person with burn injuries who was unable to escape because of debris blocking their path.
Crews rescued the person and provided medical treatment before the victim was flown to a regional burn center. The person's condition was not immediately available.
No firefighters were injured, and no structures were damaged, officials said.
The response involved 20 fire personnel, including four engines, one ladder truck, two ambulances, two chief officers and one fire investigator. The Carlsbad Fire Department and the Oceanside Police Department assisted in the effort.
