Big Rig Rollover Crash Shuts Down Multiple Lanes On I-5 Near Camp Pendleton
Authorities said significant traffic delays are expected throughout the morning.

OCEANSIDE, CA — A big rig rollover crash on Interstate 5 prompted a SigAlert early Wednesday, shutting down multiple lanes in both directions and causing major delays near Camp Pendleton.
The crash was reported around 1:45 a.m. on southbound I-5 near the Aliso Creek Rest Area, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP issued a SigAlert around 4:30 a.m.
Three southbound lanes were closed Wednesday morning as crews worked to clear the overturned semi truck, according to Caltrans. The southbound No. 4 lane was open to traffic. The northbound No. 1 lane was also closed in the area.

As of 7:15 a.m., two southbound lanes were open, while two lanes remained closed, according to the CHP. The northbound lane was reopened.
Officials estimated the remaining lanes would reopen around noon.

Authorities urged motorists to avoid the area, warning that alternate routes were limited because of the nearby military base and that significant traffic delays were expected throughout the morning.
As of 8:30 a.m., traffic was backed up to the San Onofre Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility, according to the CHP.
"Traffic delays continue through the area," CHP officials said. "Please continue to drive cautiously and watch for first responders and tow personnel."
