Body Piercing by Tracy Is an Oceanside Mainstay

Located on Pacific Coast Highway, this piercing-only shop may seem hyper-alternative in style, but don't let that intimidate you from coming in, said shop owner Tracy Scheidel.

When Mia Bella Johnson's earring fell on the ground at Pizza Port in Carlsbad, her dad, Patrick, knew that if they didn't take action soon, their 2-year-old's recently pierced ear would close up and they would have a tantrum on their hands.

That's when someone recommended they take their girl to in Oceanside.

"This is one of the only piercing-only establishments," said Max Dunn, an employee at the shop. "We specialize in quality products. Our metal-based products are all made in the USA."

Mia was intrigued by the pretty decorative plugs, but being 2, she wasn't quite ready for such a fashion statement, according to her parents.

"We're just looking for a little one like the one she had," said her mother.

Body Piercing by Tracy has been open since 1995 and has been a permanent fixture in town ever since.

"We get a lot of regulars and referrals," said Tracy Scheidel, the shop owner. "We specialize in friendly customer service."

The shop's decorative jewelry screams alternative, but the shop's vibe and clientele are low-key, said Scheidel.

"A lot of people are afraid to come into piercing places because of the alternativeness of the shop, but I think we're pretty cool," said Dunn.

Although Mia's wounds from her piercing were too fresh to re-pierce at the time, her family walked away with a cute stud to use when she is ready to accessorize her bare left ear.

Located at 1317 South Coast Hwy., Body Piercing by Tracy is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
