VSAT Alumni travels to Guyana to teach Hydroponics

VSAT Graduate Michael Driver is teaching hydroponics in Guyana with the USAID Farmer to Farmer program. Utilizing the 6 week training to impart his knowledge to Aboriginal Tribes in South America.

When VSAT Alumni Michael Driver graduated from the six-week vocational training, made possible through a grant from Disabled American Veterans, he had not imagined he would have the opportunity to travel to South America to share his knowledge.  But that is exactly what opened up for him.

USAID Farmer to Farmer program is now drawing from the pool of VSAT Alumni based on their education at the Veterans Sustainable Agriculture Training program.

Michael Driver, a Marine Corps Veteran who served with 3/1 Lima in Iraq, is now serving through teaching Aboriginal tribes how to hydroponically grow and sell vegetables in small villages where it will be the difference of the ability to eat quality food and pick themselves up financially.

The trip started on April 17th, 2012, he will continue through May 17th.  Michael is setting up hydroponic systems and drip and micro irrigation systems in a most beautiful setting.  Although the contrast to the average American can be daunting, an Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran has little shock when it comes to making due.  We'll follow his progress and post more photos as they are delivered.
