From March 18th – March 24th, California celebrates Women’s Military History Week. These women deserve our recognition every day, but this week is a time to pay special tribute to their bravery and sacrifice.
From my 28 years in the Marine Corps to present day, I regularly encounter military women who help inspire and shape me. One name in particular that comes to mind is Captain Sandra Fichter, a US Army veteran who specialized in Transportation and Logistics Management.
Sandra resides in the 76th Assembly District and consistently works hard to make our community a better place. Her volunteer efforts include serving as the Vice President of the Veterans Association of North County, of which she is a founding member. She also gives her time to the American GI Forum, Vista Soroptimist, the Women’s Resource Center and many other nonprofit organizations. She is just one of many noteworthy women who have and are continuing to serve their country and fight for our freedoms.

Recognizing our women in uniform is an honor all Californians should be committed to. I urge you to take time to celebrate the women veterans and service members in your life.
