Brush Fire On Camp Pendleton Sends Heavy Smoke Over North County
The fire scorched 18 acres before crews stopped forward progress of the flames, base officials said.

CAMP PENDLETON, CA — A brush fire broke out Tuesday afternoon on Camp Pendleton, prompting a road closure and sending heavy smoke over San Diego's North County.
The blaze sparked in the area of Stuart Mesa Road on the military base, according to North County Fire.
The fire scorched roughly 18 acres before crews stopped forward progress of the flames, base officials said. There were no injuries or structural damage.

The fire forced the closure of Stuart Mesa Road on the base between Donald Cook and the 41 Area. The road reopened around 3 p.m.
Heavy smoke blowed into Oceanside and Vista and was reported as far away as Fallbrook and Bonsall.
