Brush Fire Prompts Evacuations In Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, CA — A brush fire prompted evacuations Monday in Oceanside.

Firefighters responded shortly after 10 a.m. to the blaze in the 1000 block of West Airport Road, west of Benet Hill Road.

As of early Monday afternoon, the fire had burned 3.5 acres and was 50% contained, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

Authorities issued evacuation orders and warnings for nearby residents.

By 12:30 p.m., the evacuation order was downgraded to an evacuation warning for zone 0427. The evacuation warning was lifted for zone 0428.

A temporary evacuation point was established at the El Corazon Senior Center at 3302 Senior Center Drive in Oceanside.

San Diego Humane Society evacuated its Oceanside campus due to the fire. The shelter for cats and small animals at 576 Airport Road was closed to the public. Everyone was being moved to the organization's shelter for dogs at 2905 San Luis Rey Road.
