Brush Fire Spreads Over Grounds Of Camp Pendleton

CAMP PENDLETON, CA — A fast-moving brush fire blackened hundreds of open acres Tuesday on the grounds of Camp Pendleton, causing no reported structural damage or injuries as firefighters worked to quell the flames.

The blaze in a training area at the northern San Diego County military installation was reported in the mid-afternoon Tuesday, according to the nonprofit wildfire-information service Watch Duty. Within several hours, the burn area had grown to an estimated 402 acres, the organization reported.

The blaze was posing no structural threats, base officials advised.
