- KOCT-TV recently interviewed each of the candidates running for the 49th Congressional District for the North County Roundtable Election 2022 Edition featuring hosts Kent Davy & Alison St John. - Feeding San Diego is hosting a no-cost food distribution today on Camp Pendleton for military families ahead of Memorial Day. Families from North Terrace, Stuart Mesa, and Santa Margarita Elementary Schools are invited to a food distribution along with members of the military community at North Terrace Elementary on Camp Pendleton, 940 Capistrano Drive, Oceanside. This address does not require base access. Families can either drive through or walk up to receive fresh produce, dry goods, and frozen meat protein between 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursday. - The release of the new 'Top Gun: Maverick' movie has renewed interest in the Top Gun House beyond locals in Oceanside. Besides stocking the new High-Pie Dessert Shop with movie memorabilia, the Mission Pacific Hotel is offering a special package based on the Top Gun movie theme. "The Need for Speed" weekend experience includes skydiving with former Naval aviators into Oceanside beach, private surf lessons with a pro surfer, a custom commemorative David Barr surfboard, and a rooftop celebration complete with Dom Perignon. Two matching bomber jackets and RayBan sunglasses help ensure they look the part during their action-packed weekend. A two-night stay in Mission Pacific's Ethereal Suite is part of the over-the-top package, which costs $16,000. (Attractions Magazine)
- Voters in Oceanside will help decide who should serve as the next sheriff of San Diego County in the June 7 primary election. Seven candidates are vying to replace retired Sheriff Bill Gore, who stepped down from the position in February after heading the San Diego County Sheriff's Department for 12 years. Patch sent questionnaires to the candidates in the race. Candidates answered questions about their professional background, their key priorities, and the best advice they ever received. - Did you notice any decrease in gas prices here in Oceanside? The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County recorded its largest decrease since April 26 Wednesday, dropping eight-tenths of a cent to $6.02 following a run of 19 increases in 22 days totaling 24.9 cents. The average price rose to records four of the previous six days, including Tuesday when it increased three-tenths of a cent to $6.028, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is three-tenths of a cent more than one week ago, 27.5 cents higher than one month ago and $1.856 greater than one year ago. (San Diego Patch)
