Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:
- Oceanside is seeking community input on design plans for El Corazon Park 1 at its second public meeting set for Thursday. At the meeting, the city will provide a summary from the first community meeting, followed by a presentation of two park design options. "We want to ensure that El Corazon Park Site 1 meets the diverse recreation and leisure needs of the Oceanside Community," said Darlene Nicandro, Development Services Director with the city of Oceanside. - A Camp Pendleton Marine was charged with assault and battery for an altercation that was caught on video. The marine, identified as Sgt. Jason Frink, is seen in the video pushing hotel staff at the Pacific Terrace Hotel in San Diego on New Year's Eve. When security guard Ronnie Toms stepped in and tried to stop Frink, he appeared to try and grab her phone until another security guard began hitting Frink with a lamp. Frink was identified after the video went viral and people on social media identified him. According to the San Diego City Attorney's Office, "Frink is scheduled to be arraigned at a March 1 court appearance." (Task & Purpose)
- As the weather heats up and natural gas prices come down, SDG&E customers can expect their bills to drop up to 50% in February. The company announced that "the commodity price of natural gas decreased by 68% from January's prices, from $3.45 per therm to $1.11 per therm. The price per therm was $2.36 in January 2022, as a comparison." That decrease in therm cost is expected to reduce February's bills by over $100 on average. Even with the decrease in cost, many locals are still having problems paying the recent high bills. For those ratepayers, SDG&E recommends applying for an assistance program, which can be found at sdge.com/assistance. (Times of San Diego)
