🌱 Camp Pendleton In Rose Parade + Oceanside Man Dies In Accident

Here are the top five stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. The U.S. Marine Corps West Coast Composite Band from Camp Pendleton will be among 17 bands from around the globe marching at the Rose Parade. San Diego's Mira Mesa High School "Sapphire Sound" Marching Band and Color Guard will also be taking part in the 2022 Rose parade lineup. They will be joined by 37 floats and 17 equestrian groups. Emmy-winning actor LeVar Burton will serve as the grand marshal. (Times of San Diego)
  2. An Oceanside man was killed after his motorcycle was struck by a big rig in the Ocotillo Wells area. California Highway Patrol Officer Matthew Baranowski said in a news release Thursday that the 36-year-old motorcyclist died at Desert Regional Hospital in Palm Springs. (Times of San Diego)

  4. Oceanside resident Clifton Koehler was arrested in Santa Clarita for possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded gun. Santa Clarita deputies discovered him driving with both license plates missing, according to Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station. "As the deputy contacted the driver to warn/cite him, he observed a plastic baggie containing narcotics within the male's reach," Arriaga said. "During a search of his car, deputies additionally found a plastic bag containing approximately a quarter pound of hallucinogenic mushrooms and a loaded revolver." (KHTS Radio)
  5. San Diego County reported 3,653 new COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths in its most recent data as public health officials continue to urge people to take precautions such as masking before New Year's Eve celebrations. The COVID-19 case rate is three times higher for those San Diegans who are unvaccinated compared to those who have received vaccines. (City News Service)
