By Miriam Gardner-Head Volleyball Coach at Mission Vista High School: After a lot of road games this is our first home match and we were ready to play. Our Lady of Peace is currently ranked #1 in the CIF Power Rankings and I knew this would be a tough match. I know it is early in the season but I am very proud of our girls for winning tonight's match. They fought hard and played with passion. We started out really strong in the first set and didn't miss any serves. Going into the 2nd set we started to miss more serves. Eventually, our serves started to get aggressive and we were able to pass more consistently. We were blocking well and was able to shut down one of their big hitters with Callah Glauch contributing to the shut down with a total of 13 blocks. Sydney Stevens was on fire with 18 kill and 30 digs. Maile Counts was able to get 32 assists which contributed to Stevens kills. We didn't have our other starting outside hitter, so sophmore Ashley Gonnerman step in and did an excellent job filling her spot while getting 7 kills and 20 digs.
Mission Vista defeated Our Lady of Peace (3-1) 26-24, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20
Kills: Sydney Stevens (M) 16
Digs: Sydney Stevens (M) 30, Maya Pokletar (M) 22
Assists: Maile Counts (M) 32
