Here are the top five stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. It's long been easy to overlook Oceanside, a humble California seaside enclave that sits like a bookend at the very northern edge of San Diego county. Cut to 2022, however, and Oceanside is having its moment. With its nearly 2,000-foot-long wooden pier, a downtown flanked by creative new restaurants, and a bumper crop of new hotels sprouting along the city's sparkling shoreline despite the pandemic, it's suddenly apparent: Oceanside, one of the last small Southern California beach towns, is a diamond that's no longer so rough. Here's where to eat, stay and play for the best things to do in Oceanside. (Condé Nast Traveler)
  2. Oceanside City Councilmember Christopher Rodriguez is campaigning to replace Democrat Congressman Mike Levin in the 49th Congressional District. Rodriguez is campaigning against both Levin and Republican candidate Brian Maryott, who Rodriguez labeled a "professional candidate." His new ad blasts both of his opponents as "the suits," pointing out they "run for Congress every two years, and nothing changes." The ad concludes with Rodriguez saying, "It's time to boot the suits, and send in the Marine." (KUSI)
  3. After signing its new 20-year lease agreement with the city last fall, Oceanside Theatre Company hired its first-ever managing director to help usher the theater group into the future by enhancing its residency at the historic Sunshine Brooks Theater. Alex Goodman, a long-time patron of the Brooks Theater and former managing director for New Village Arts in Carlsbad, has taken over as managing director for Oceanside Theatre Company, the city's resident professional performing arts company stewarding the Brooks Theater since 2011. (Coast News)
  4. Senator Bates commends Camp Pendleton for receiving Keep California Beautiful, 2021 Recycling Hero Award. "As the state representative for Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, it gives me great pleasure to recognize the brave men and women of the Marine Corps for their commitment to protecting California's environment. Camp Pendleton's noteworthy efforts in waste reduction, litter prevention, and community engagement serves as a model for U.S. military bases throughout the nation and around the world." (Orange County Breeze)
  5. The team behind The Switchboard Restaurant in Oceanside are staying busy, introducing their newest concept via social media called Haetae. Their latest creation will debut on their home turf: Oceanside's historic Fin Hotel. According to their post on Instagram, The Switchboard says, "We will be carving out the Topeka Lounge space and have Haetae as our food and beverage inspiration." Haetae will complement The Switchboard's Hawaiian-Korean fusion cuisine with a focus on Korean Street Food. (What Now San Diego)
