Contemporary Ceramics on Exhibit at MiraCosta College beginning November 12

Hiroshi Ikehata is an internationally exhibiting artist who resides in Koumi, Japan. Ikehata utilizes modern-day polishing techniques on his clay vessels and sculptural wall forms. His work is included in many major ceramics collections including Archie Bray Collection (United States), Orton Cone Collection (United States), Incheon World Ceramics Center (Korea), Tougeinomori Shigaraki Collection (Japan), and Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche (Italy).

Geordie Shepherd’s art is inspired by things experimental, humorous, speculative and introspective, into which he weaves narratives or extracted snippets. The pieces resulting from these new combinations explore the gray zone between the real and the unreal, nothing and something, memory and history, and craft and art. While ceramics is the core of his practice, Shepherd draws and writes extensively, resulting in a fertile cross-pollination of form, text and image, which is layered with popular culture, musical scores, fused chemical combinations, recollections of life’s passages, and quests for beauty using mark and rhythm.

The Kruglak Art Gallery offers a diverse range of contemporary exhibitions of interest to students and the general public.
