Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Three people have been hospitalized following a major car crash on a highway in Oceanside Saturday night. According to North Comm Fire, officials received a call around 9:20 p.m. about a crash involving three cars on CA 76 near Foussat Road. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found one of the cars in a ditch and rescued the two people who were inside. Three people were taken to a local hospital and there is no word on their condition. (ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)
  2. Dining Oceanside: The family-owned Lighthouse Oyster Bar & Grill at the Oceanside Harbor offers an eclectic menu of Fresh Seafood, Surf and Turf, Pasta and Tacos to go with one of the best views in Oceanside. Even the appetizer, salad and dessert menus are equally impressive with a wide variety of delectables to please even serious foodies, including one of the only places around that serve the classic favorite, Oysters Rockefeller. 3. A 19-year-old man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of reckless evading of a police officer after a multi-vehicle crash following a high-speed chase with California Highway Patrol officers, authorities said. CHP officers from the Oceanside area were patrolling northbound Interstate 5 at Manchester Avenue at 8:22 a.m. when they saw a grey Nissan Sentra being driven erratically at a high rate of speed, Officer Hunter Gerber of the CHP said. The officers tried to make a traffic stop but the Nissan failed to yield and a pursuit began, Gerber said. (CBS News 8)
  4. Oceanside is considering a $20 monthly fee for water customers who choose to opt out of a new automatic metering system, which some people say is an invasion of privacy. The City Council approved the system Aug. 19, 2020, and the utilities department began installations in the summer of 2021. Workers are replacing nearly 45,000 meters with automatic devices that monitor water use and transmit the data to the water department. However, some residents say the meters collect far more information than necessary, and that the fee is too high to opt out. (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
  5. Before every Sunday home game at Petco Park, the Padres take the field and are greeted by nine service members -- one at every defensive position. The players thank the service members, have a brief chat and then it's game time. That moment, now a staple of Military Appreciation Sunday in San Diego, is always a reverent one. But this Sunday afternoon was particularly special for the Manaea family. Padres left-hander Sean Manaea started the series finale against the Dodgers. When he took the mound, he was greeted by his brother Dane, currently in the Navy as a hospital corpsman third class at nearby Camp Pendleton. (MLB.com)
