Driver Killed, Passengers Hurt In I-5 Rollover Crash In North County
The vehicle overturned and crashed into a call box and barbed wire fence, according to the CHP.

CAMP PENDLETON, CA — A driver was killed and his two passengers were injured in a rollover crash in northern San Diego County, authorities said Monday.
The crash happened at about 5:45 a.m. Saturday on northbound Interstate 5, south of Las Pulgas Road, in unincorporated San Diego County, according to the California Highway Patrol. A 20-year-old man from Mount Vernon, Washington, was driving a black BMW 440I in the northbound lanes of I-5.
"For reasons still under investigation, the BMW veered to the left where it collided into the center median guard rail," CHP Officer Hunter Gerber said. "The vehicle then veered back to the right where it overturned and crashed into a call box and barbed wire fence."

The CHP and Camp Pendleton firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene. Despite life-saving measures, the driver died at the scene, Gerber said. His name was not released.
The two passengers were injured. A 21-year-old man from Oceanside suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital, Gerber said. A 19-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and declined further medical aid at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. It was not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash, Gerber said.
