Duo Flees Traffic Stop, Crash, Caught Hiding At Oceanside School
Oceanside Police Officers arrest couple after crashing vehicle, fleeing and hiding at nearby South Oceanside Elementary School.
OCEANSIDE, CA - On 03/24/21 at 10:30PM, Oceanside Police Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of I-5 and Harbor Drive for a vehicle code violation.
The vehicle, being driven by a female with a male passenger fled from officers. Roughly three minutes later, a reporting party called in reporting a single vehicle traffic collision in the area of I-5 and the Cassidy St off ramp. A male and female were observed fleeing from the collision scene West on Cassidy St.
A perimeter was established and the San Diego County Sheriff's helicopter arrived on scene to assist with the search. The helicopter crew located the two suspects hiding in a plastic enclosure in the middle of the recreational field area of South Oceanside Elementary School. An arrest team (with the assistance of a Sheriff's K-9) moved in to make contact with the suspects.

According to Oceanside Public Information Officer, Tom Bussey, "The suspects were found hiding in a plastic enclosure within the kids play area".
The male suspect dropped his narcotics and fled from officers climbing onto the roof of one of the campus buildings. He was eventually taken into custody by an arrest team without incident. The suspects vehicle that crashed was handled by the California Highway Patrol.
