on Addiction

Free "On Addiction" seminar in Carlsbad on June 15

Is addiction really a “disease”? And how can the millions of individuals and their families affected by addiction recover? A seminar, “On Addiction,” addressing both questions, will take place on Friday, June 15 from 7 to 9 pm at St. Michael’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 2775 Carlsbad Boulevard in Carlsbad. The seminar is free and open to the public.

In the seminar’s first hour – “Understanding Addiction” – Dr. Kevin McCauley of The Institute for Addiction Study will focus on the latest neuroscientific research about addiction. He will present this complex information in an easy-to-understand format that will help people in recovery feel better understood, and their families and friends gain hope that recovery is indeed possible. Dr. McCauley is a former naval flight surgeon who treated pilots with alcohol and drug problems. (He wrote, directed and narrated the 2010 award-winning film "Pleasure Unwoven" on this topic.) As a physician, he advocates strongly for the rights of addicts as patients.
