Evacuations Lifted After Brush Fire Threatens Homes In San Diego's North County

BONSALL, CA — Authorities have fully contained a brush fire that threatened homes, forced a road closure, and prompted evacuation orders and warnings for nearby communities Monday in northern San Diego County.
The blaze, called the Mission 2 Fire, sparked shortly before 3 p.m. in the block of 5000 South Mission Road near the community of Bonsall, according to Cal Fire and North County Fire Protection District. Crews fully contained the blaze by 10:51 p.m.
"You may see firefighters in the area over the next couple of days patrolling the area," Cal Fire said on social media.

Ground crews and personnel aboard air tankers and water-dropping helicopters worked to extinguish the blaze, which blackened 21 acres and threatened structures south of La Canada Road. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office issued evacuation orders and warnings for nearby areas.
Crews stopped forward progress of the flames shortly after 4 p.m. and authorities lifted evacuation warnings. Evacuation orders were lifted by 8:50 p.m.

"Emergency crews are still working in the vicinity," the Oceanside Area CHP office said on social media. "Please use caution if traveling through the area."
South Mission Road was initially closed in both directions due to the blaze.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
