Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Father's Day is a day to put Pops on a pedestal. If you wish to leave the cooking to someone else, check out what restaurants throughout the San Diego region are offering for on-site dining or takeout meals for at-home brunches and backyard BBQs. And to all dads, grandads, stepdads, foster dads and father-figure uncles, too, Happy Father's Day from Patch! (San Diego Patch)
  2. A lotto ticket worth $7.7 million was bought in Southern California. Have you checked your tickets? The winning ticket matched the first five numbers, but missed the mega number. No one won the top prize of $273 million in the multi-state lotto. The jackpot for the Tuesday drawing grows to $290 million. (Patch)
  3. San Diego County's Health and Human Services Agency on Friday identified another probable case of Monkeypox, bringing the region's total probable case count to three. The two prior probable cases reported by the county on Wednesday have not yet been verified by the CDC. HHSA officials said this most recent case has no connection or relation to the first two probable cases, but like the other two, the individual also recently traveled internationally. The person is in isolation and although symptomatic, is doing well and is not hospitalized. (San Diego Patch)
  4. Patch has your complete guide to Independence Day fireworks shows, parades and other celebrations in and around the San Diego region. After a year or two of COVID-related restrictions, cities and towns throughout the San Diego County region are back in the star-spangled swing with Fourth of July parades, events and fireworks extravaganzas. (Patch)
  5. The Navy on Saturday christened the second destroyer to be named after Marine Corps World War II hero John Basilone. During his time in the Marines, Basilone was stationed at Camp Pendleton and married his wife at St. Mary Star of the Sea in Oceanside. The future USS John Basilone is the 72nd guided-missile destroyer in the Arleigh Burke class. (Times of San Diego)
