- It's a busy celestial weekend for Oceansider's with two big events on the horizon. The final full moon of the winter season rises Thursday and Friday night. Then on Sunday, the Spring equinox occurs marking the official start of Spring. March's Full Worm Moon reaches peak illumination at 3:20 A.M. EDT today. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
- A group of Democratic state lawmakers on Thursday gathered at the state Capitol to unveil a bill that would give a $400 rebate to all California taxpayers to help defray the cost of record-high gas prices, regardless of whether they own a car. Assemblymember Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Irvine) said at a Thursday news conference. "To put that into context, for most vehicles, for most Californians, this $400 rebate is equivalent to a one-year gas tax holiday. (San Diego Patch)
- The parents of Nicole Crystal Sinkule continue their efforts to keep their daughter's murderer behind bars. On October 16, 2005, 25-year-old Sinkule was brutally murdered in her sleep while living in Oceanside. Sinkule's boyfriend at the time, Eric Nathaniel Marum, was convicted in her death and was serving 16 years to life in prison in Sacramento. (KESQ)
- Hundreds of San Diego Scouts are to compete at the annual Pinewood Derby Saturday. Open to boys and girls from 5-17 years old, this free event features numerous heats and qualifying races. Attendees will also enjoy games, face painting, a DJ and various other educational activities. This is the inaugural derby for the Rancho San Luis Rey Zone, which includes cub packs and boy scout troops from throughout North County, including Oceanside, Carlsbad, Camp Pendleton, Bonsall, Fallbrook, Encinitas, Del Mar, and Solana Beach. - The Oceanside Police are among agencies working to stem youth alcohol sales. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department, local police departments and the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control have worked together since the beginning of March under a statewide Shoulder Tap 2022 operation at local licensed liquor establishments. Sheriff's deputies, Oceanside police, ABC agents and three minor decoys conducted an operation on March 12 at locations in Encinitas, Solana Beach and elsewhere. (OsideNews)
