Get Out: Mud Run; Hypnosis; Putt It Up; Have a Pint

This weekend's guide to some of the area's best festivities.

The weather this coming weekend is expected to be partly cloudy and a comfortable average of 73 degrees, which means it’s a good time to get out and enjoy the lovely weather before the real heat of the upcoming summer starts to kick in.

Whether you decide to be a spectator at this year’s World Famous Mud Run or enjoy some barbecue and good music at the Rock, Blues and BBQ Festival, just make sure you get out and enjoy this weekend’s festivities, because people don’t get it as great as we do here in sunny Southern California.

When: Saturday, June 11, 9 a.m.

Where: Lake O’Neill, Camp Pendleton

Why Go: Registration for the annual World Famous Mud Run may be full, but that shouldn’t stop you from being a spectator.  Watch hundreds of contestants tackle a 10K obstacle course while getting covered in mud. The Filthy Fun Fest follows, including food, drink and entertainment.

Price: Registration closed for run; the festival is free. General public must bring valid driver’s license, vehicle registration and proof of auto insurance.

When: Friday, June 10, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Pacific Views/South Mesa Club

Why Go: Celebrated as a master storyteller and the finest military writer alive, Pressfield will be speaking and signing his new book.

CRUISE ON DOWN TO THE FAIR

When: Friday, June 10, through Monday, July 4. Closed Mondays except for Independence Day. Open 11 a.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends.

Where: Del Mar Fair Grounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar.

Why Go: This year’s fair will be celebrating cars and cruisers and will have many historic and modern vehicles on display.  Enjoy a whole day of food, fun and rides.  Some admission tickets include concert shows with performers such as Pat Benatar and Switchfoot.

Price: Admission is $13 for adults, and $7 for children ages 6-12 and adults over the age of 62.  Children 5 and under are free.

 

ROCK OUT AND PIG OUT

When: Saturday, June 11, noon to 8 p.m.

Where: Walnut Grove Park, 1950 Sycamore Dr., San Marcos.

Why Go: What better way to spend the weekend than with good blues, beer and barbecue at the Rock, Blues & BBQ Festival in San Diego?

Price: $10 presale (available at San Marcos Community Center until June 10), $15 at the door, $5 for kids under 10

 

When: Friday, June 10, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Kindred Journeys, 510 N. Coast Hwy., Oceanside.

Why Go: In need of some spiritual healing? Try hypnosis, muscle testing and pranic healing to achieve balance.

Price: $10

 

When: Friday, June 10, 10:30 a.m.

Where: Arrowood Golf Course, 5201 Village Dr., Oceanside.

Why Go: If you love putting on the green, join the Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses of San Diego as they host their 23rd Annual Golf Tournament. There will be a putting contest, barbecue dinner and awards.

Price: $125. All proceeds will go towards education and scholarships.

 

When: Friday, June 10

Where: Officer’s Pub 1795, San Luis Rey Housing, Camp Pendleton.

Why Go: Officers can unwind with a drink and an array of bar games as well as watch sporting events on LCD televisions.

Price: Free

 

When: Friday, June 10, through Sunday, June 12

Where: 3000 Guajome Lake Rd., Oceanside.

Why Go: The North San Diego Folk Song Society celebrates music by holding performances, workshops, camping and impromptu jam sessions. Feel free to bring your own instrument.

Price: Free. Parking $4 on Friday and Saturday, $3 on Sunday.

 

MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY AT PETCO PARK

When: Sunday, June 12

Where: Petco Park, 100 Park Blvd., San Diego.

Why Go: Watch the Padres take on the Washington Nationals. There will be Padres sweatbands for kids, and it is Photo and Military Appreciation Day. Go on, enjoy some good baseball and honor yourselves!
