Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. Oceanside is one step closer to completion of a year-round homeless shelter, thanks to funding from the county. The San Diego Rescue Mission was approved in 2021 to transform the former Ocean Shores High School into the Oceanside Navigation Center. The shelter plans to house up to 50 homeless individuals along with providing other services to help people transition into permanent housing. "With the additional county funds, the city now has nearly $9.6 million to complete the $7.8 million shelter project. The remaining $1.8 million will reimburse the city's Inclusionary Housing funds." (Coast News)
  2. There's holiday magic in the air with a sleighful of festive events throughout the San Diego area this weekend. Among "10 Things To Do in San Diego from December 15-18" is the Ugly Sweater Christmas Party at Carruth Cellars' Oceanside Tasting room, Hangar 76. One of the most popular events is the Pet Parade in the Gaslamp. Get in the spirit and check out the complete event line-up. (San Diego Magazine)
  3. Trains heading north of Oceanside are still on hold, but rail service could resume by February. Unstable ground along the coastal tracks caused all passenger service between Oceanside and San Clemente to be halted in September. "We've known for a long time the beach erosion is jeopardizing the tracks," said Rick Erkeneff of the Surfrider Foundation. "The latest emergency closure to the line is no surprise."
