Good morning, friends! It's your first edition of the new year for the Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Daily. Here are the most important things happening in town. Including:
- Oceanside has North County's largest homeless population.
- Pacific Coast Spirits wins awards for best whiskeys.
- Hire Local program teams with MiraCosta to offer free classes.
But first, today's weather:
Cloudy with a little rain. High: 61 Low: 53.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:
- Oceanside residents are eligible for free college classes at MiraCosta College through the Hire Local program from the City of Oceanside. The Technology Career Institute work skills programs include not just free training but actual paid internships within six months. Classes start January 23 and include a plethora of in-demand local jobs in advanced manufacturing, engineering, emerging technologies, healthcare, veterinary science and even brewing. (Times of San Diego)
- Pacific Coast Spirits on Coast Highway in Oceanside earned some bragging rights as one of its whiskeys ranked 11th-best in the country for 2022. Sadly, the American Single Malt has already sold out, but a new batch is due to be released in the new year. Meanwhile, you can still get the Blue Corn Whiskey, which also made the top 100 list, at number 80. "We are humbled and honored to make Fred Minnick's Top 100 American Whiskey list," said founder and head distiller Nicholas Hammond. "He is a legend and it absolutely made our year." (Patch)
- It comes as no surprise to locals that Oceanside now has the largest homeless population in North County after the recent point-in-time count. What may be lesser known is that Oceanside does not currently have a homeless shelter, as do other cities like Escondido. But that will be changing this year, as the city is about to open its first homeless shelter. The 50-bed shelter will be operated by the San Diego Rescue Mission, with renovations coming from the $1.6 million in federal funding Oceanside receives annually to address homelessness. (Patch)
